This project involved designing a cohesive series of Gothic book covers for Penguin Books, using primarily physical making processes supported by digital refinement. The brief required a strong visual link across all covers while responding to the tone and themes of each individual text. My concept centres around mathematical symbols as a unifying visual language, pairing each novel with a distinct form: division for Dracula, addition for Frankenstein, subtraction for Wuthering Heights, and multiplication for The Picture of Dorian Gray. Each symbol is combined with imagery drawn from the narrative, creating compositions that are both symbolic and expressive. Through this approach, I explored how abstract forms can communicate complex themes, resulting in a series that is visually cohesive while maintaining the identity of each story.
